Elizabeth Custer was the wife of General George Armstrong Custer, a United States Army officer and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the Indian Wars. She was born Elizabeth Bacon in 1842 in Monroe, Michigan. She married George Custer in 1864 and they had one daughter, Elizabeth Bacon Custer. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother, and she accompanied her husband on many of his military campaigns. She was known for her bravery and loyalty, and she was often referred to as “Libbie” by her husband and friends. After her husband’s death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, Elizabeth wrote several books about her life with him and his military career. She died in 1933 at the age of 91.
